Paul Gaster is our senior tax partner responsible for the firm's taxation services. Paul has been a Chartered Accountant for 40 years. Paul is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia, having received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1969 from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.
Paul's tax consulting work focuses primarily on estate and succession planning for owners of family-owned enterprises and on representing clients in taxation disputes with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency and provincial tax authorities. Other areas of Paul's tax practice includes corporate reorganizations, taxation aspects of insurance planning and non-resident and international tax planning matters.
Paul is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and served for many years on the Taxation Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia. For several years, Paul was Chairman of the Revenue Canada Liaison Committee, dealing directly with senior members of Revenue Canada on matters of interest to members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia and their clients.
As well as authoring many courses on tax matters, Paul lectured extensively for both the Canadian and British Columbia Institutes of Chartered Accountants. He currently presents seminars on taxation to real estate, banking, legal and other groups.
Paul has been very active in the community, having served for many years as President of Coquitlam Youth Soccer and as President of the Coquitlam Junior Adanacs Lacrosse Club. He also served as a Director of the Rotary Club of Coquitlam Centre Foundation and was instrumental in starting their vocational student counselling programme. In 1992 Paul received the Government of Canada Community Services Award for his efforts.
Presently Paul is President and a founding member of the Avalon by the Sea Women's Society which provides peer counselling services and operates a drop-in centre for women in recovery in the South Surrey and White Rock areas.
