I spend my time helping clients resolve financial issues. This usually encompasses selling businesses or assets, facilitating financial settlements or analyzing financial records in either a forensic setting or providing expert evidence in court. Many of my assignments are by way of court order.
I first became a CA in England in 1974, then in 1976 in Canada. I quickly moved into the area of insolvency and became a trustee in bankruptcy in 1978. With the improvement in the economy throughout the 1990s, I became interested in business valuations and obtained my Chartered Business Valuator designation in 1998. I am also a Certified Forensic Examiner. I have been a member of several provincial and national professional committees and currently chair the Intervention Committee of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP). This committee reviews matters of national interest and, where appropriate, seeks to intervene in court applications. In 2011, I was honoured to be the recipient of the Keith G. Collins Memorial Award presented by CAIRP.
There is usually a “right way” to settle problems. I try to follow that path.
I was offered an exciting opportunity to head the insolvency department and with it a chance to be responsible for my own career.
My community involvement is currently in a lull having recently retired as the treasurer of Eagle Harbour Yacht Club.
Doing the right thing in any situation will serve you best in the long run.
